There's no official Steam Deck control layout for V Rising, but community configs have it covered. I certainly did, and V Rising doesn’t pause when in menus, resulting in multiple moments of wolves walking up to bite chunks out of my stationary vamp while I scrambled to look up what the ‘B’ key was again. Combined with the fact that it just uses so many different keys, even those who’ve played V Rising on desktop will likely need to keep dipping back into the SteamOS controls diagram just to remind themselves which button does what. Still, while it’s an admirable rebinding job, V Rising clearly wasn’t designed to feel intuitive with handheld controls, and it doesn’t adapt its on-screen prompts to reflect the distinct controller hardware. This made effective use of the left trackpad’s radial menu to equip gear or use items from V Rising’s action bar, while single- or double-tapping the rear buttons could deploy inputs that the game usually spreads across a myriad of keys. Mercifully, there are already several community-made control layouts you can select and modify in my case, the Deck automatically defaulted to a layout by Steam user Turulo. This makes controlling V Rising on the Steam Deck considerably trickier than with a mouse and keyboard, even with the device having dual trackpads and extra rear buttons over a standard gamepad. V Rising is available in Early Access on PC.For one, there’s no native controller support, and developers Stunlock Studios have said it’s unlikely they’ll be adding any. This update shows that the team is dedicated to creating a more inclusive and fair game for players to continue to enjoy. Stunlock Studios is ensuring that V Rising continues to stay relevant and inventive through its Early Access period. Before the update, mounted combat was unbelievably powerful, so it was necessary to apply such a substantial decrease to the damage. Most notably the mace and harpoon abilities have received buffs while the sword’s abilities have been dialed back, and the most crucial change to combat comes in the form of mounted melee damage being reduced by 30%. The studio has taken notice of these overpowered abilities and has reduced damage output or increased cooldown for many of these skills in an attempt to level out the playing field between Chaos and the other skills.įinally, many of V Rising’s weapons have received some balancing respecs. The Chaos skills are widely considered some of the most powerful and feature a lot of very useful abilities. The Frost skills are all fairly powerful and the Crystal Lance and Ice Nova both received either damage increases or cooldown decreases, while Veil of Frost and Arctic Leap both had their damage output decreased. Many Illusion and Frost skills also received buffs, making Illusion skills such as Spectral Wolf much more powerful and making the Illusion skill tree a more viable option. Luckily, this issue has been fixed and players are still able to heal through damage, though they will not gain the usual buff. In terms of healing abilities, Veil of Blood now heals slightly more and The Vermin Salve healing item was previously able to be interrupted by damage. While Veil of Bones has received a huge damage increase but loses some damage as the projectile bounces around the battlefield. Corpse Explosion is a tricky skill that requires some finesse to pull off but is now a more viable option with a larger damage output. The Unholy abilities affected by the update are Corpse Explosion, Unstable Mosquito, and Veil of Bones all receiving some buffs and damage increases. V Rising's combat puts focus different types of skills all with a wide variety of different abilities, many of these skills have been updated for better balance. Any fan of building in games will know how frustrating it is to have to tear down an entire wall or building just to fix one small detail, and it looks like Stunlock has taken note of these issues in its game and is aiming to make the building much more streamlined. The Patch Notes state that players can now dismantle floor pieces that are attached to a wall without having to dismantle the entire wall, as long as the wall still has any floor piece attached to it. The second major feature is a welcomed change for those who enjoy the base-building side of V Rising. Since V Rising is becoming so popular so quickly, the developers have had to add a lot more localization for languages such as Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, and many others, with more language options surely on the way as the game continues to grow. Though the list of what the developer considers to be major features added in this update is fairly small, it does consist of some important quality of life improvements, as well as, a major increase in localization.
